If tonight is an emergency, this is the wrong place — and here is the right one.
Tembral is not a crisis service and nobody is watching it. Nothing you write in the app reaches anybody, and nobody is reading a message between circles. If you are in immediate danger, or you are thinking about ending your life, please use one of these instead. They are answered by people whose whole work this is.
In the Netherlands and across Europe, call 112. In the United Kingdom, call 999. In Ireland, call 112 or 999. In the United States, call 911. Anywhere else, call your own country’s emergency number.

You are not wasting anybody’s time by calling, and you do not have to be sure it is serious enough.

Tembral has people in more countries than the four above, and printing four is not a statement that the rest do not matter. These two directories are maintained, cover more than a hundred and fifty countries, and let you filter by what is happening and by how you want to be contacted — including by text or chat, if speaking out loud is not possible tonight.
- Find A Helpline
Free, confidential helplines in more than 150 countries, filterable by how you want to be contacted and by what is happening — including gender and sexual identity, and substance use. Entries carry a badge where the helpline itself verified them.
- IASP
The International Association for Suicide Prevention's own list of crisis centres, which also points to Befrienders Worldwide and Lifeline International.
What Tembral cannot do
Tembral is peer support: people with a shared experience speaking honestly to one another, with someone keeping the shape of the hour. Tembral is not therapy, it is not medical care, and it is not a crisis service. Some of what follows is a limitation and some of it is a design decision, and it is worth knowing which.
- Nobody is on call. A circle meets when it meets. Between sittings there is nobody listening, and there is no inbox to write into.
- Nothing in the app is monitored. The chat in a circle exists only while that circle is running. Nothing you write in a practice reaches anybody at all — it stays on your phone. Do not use Tembral to say something urgent, because there is nobody there to read it.
- A circle is audio only, and nobody can see you. A facilitator cannot see your face, your room, or any visible sign that something is wrong, and cannot find out where you are. If something is wrong, it has to be said out loud or it is not known.
- A facilitator is not a clinician here. He keeps the structure of the sitting and looks after the room. He does not assess you, diagnose you, treat you or supervise your care. That stays true where a facilitator holds a professional qualification outside Tembral: it is not being used here, and no practitioner relationship is created with him or with us.
- If you are in treatment, Tembral is not a reason to change it or stop it. Speak to the person treating you.
- We do not promise a result. Nothing here claims you will feel better, drink less, or change in a particular way. What is promised is the format: an hour, a small room, and what happens in it staying in it.
If someone in a circle is in danger
Say it out loud. Nobody can see you, so nothing is obvious.
Tell the facilitator, in the room, while it is happening. If it is you, say that too — there is no wrong way to say it and nobody will handle it badly. If someone is in immediate danger and you know where they are, call the emergency number.
Two things a facilitator can do, and there is no third: he can switch off one person’s microphone, and he can end the sitting for everyone. A person whose microphone is switched off stays in the room and can still hear it. Neither of those is a punishment, and neither is explained in front of the room.
Afterwards, or if something needs a person rather than a mechanism, write to frank@tembral.com. One person reads it. It is not a monitored channel and it is not fast, so it is not the place for tonight — the numbers above are.
There is one limit on confidentiality and it belongs here rather than buried in the terms: we may pass on what we know where the law requires it, or where we honestly believe on reasonable grounds that it is necessary to prevent a serious and immediate risk of harm to you or to somebody else.
When this page was last checked
Every number and every set of hours on this page was read from the operator’s own website, on the operator’s own address, on 6 September 2026.
Not from a directory, not from a search result, not from an archived copy, and not from memory. Nothing appears here that could not be confirmed that way, which is why some services you might expect are absent. The next check is due in March 2027.
That sweep found four entries that would have been wrong, and they are worth naming so nobody puts them back. MIND Korrelatie is now MIND Hulplijn, and it is not open day and night. The LGBTQ+ option that used to sit behind Press 3 on the United States 988 line ended in July 2025 and has not returned. The SAGE LGBT Elder Hotline was discontinued in 2023. Trans Lifeline is not open at weekends, whatever a directory may still say.
If you find something on this page that is out of date, please write to frank@tembral.com. On this page that is not feedback, it is a fault report, and it goes to the front of the queue.
